Moy Hill Community Garden

26 Aug

This weekend it has been 2 years since we started to clear the brambles from Moy Hill Community Garden. When we started it was completely overgrown with them together with couch grass and other weeds. It was a nice surprise when we discovered an old well in the bushes with beautiful water.

To celebrate the second birthday harvest festival was organized and also some excellent musician had their gigs.
I arrived to the Moy community field first just in time to follow Ferg and his dad for a wall around the plot and listening to their knowledge of organic growing.

They pointed out some varieties which did not work so well. Also Ferg claims that growing marigolds with brassicas reduces amount of damage by white butterfly’s larvae by attracting their predators.
After Ferg was proud to show us his new copper rake made by PKS  Copper Tools PKS.
I continued to community garden afterwards to meet Mitch and Matt from the crew.

There was good few visitors passing trough and Matt was giving them tours. All the visitors were impressed by the lush growth and the fine landscaping features of the place.

The underground glasshouse was getting the most attention as Mitch was trying to get the growth of tomatoes under control after receiving advice from one of the best organic growers of Ireland before he went for few waves with his son Fergal.
